Where in the world is Bulgaria? Go to Italy's boot heel and head northeast about 300 miles. Bulgaria is in Eastern Europe, bordered by the Danube River on the north and the Black Sea on the east. If Bulgaria were a U.S. state, it would be ranked 35th in size--the same as Virginia. By the way, Bulgaria's Thracian Valley is located at approximately 42 degrees north latitude like the winegrowing regions of Tuscany Italy and Rioja Spain.
